Thankful Thursday 9-4-14

The writing has been a bit thin here lately, I know, but I guess that just happens sometimes. I do have several ideas, I just haven’t finished them yet. Anyway, summer is apparently still hanging on in my part of the world, with temperatures in the upper eighties to ninety degrees (30-32 C) with humidity topping out at 80-100% most days. Reminds me of some of our trips to the coast when I was growing up, actually. Usually we lived up in the highlands where the temperatures were more moderate and the humidity a little more manageable, though certainly more than here. The idea that bread can actually dry out before it molds in this country took a little getting used to. 🙂

Anyway, I enjoyed my holiday weekend, and survived getting back to work. Some of the things I’m thankful for this week are:

  • a long weekend to relax … and start catching up on Doctor Who 🙂
  • good weather for the short hike I took on Saturday in a state park near me (too cloudy for many pictures, though I did get a few, but the clouds made it cooler and at least it wasn’t raining)

    Small white flowers and bee

    Little flowers and friend, 8/30/14

  • the pleasant surprise of finding out that things were half off at Goodwill this weekend after I’d checked out with my used books (it was nice to have them cheaper than usual – five books for $4.42 including tax! – and also nice that it wasn’t until after I’d checked out, so I wasn’t tempted to add more :-} )
  • winning something on a blog giveaway for the first time ever! (Their blog is also in the blogroll over on my sidebar.)
  • elevators, now that I work on the third floor (though I do make an effort to take the stairs at least once a day)
  • salt and pepper for my cottage cheese, and for using in food in general, for that matter
  • parentheses – as evidenced by this list, I’d be in trouble if I couldn’t use parentheses 🙂

I’ll wrap up there for this week. Do you have anything you’re thankful for – big elevator-sized things, or little parentheses-sized things, or abstract pleasant-surprise-type things? I’d enjoy hearing about them if you do!

I’m thankful for the travel I’ve enjoyed within the last month, Oregon, Washington state, Puget Sound, now visiting family in Maryland. Safe travels too (except for a minor inconvenience of a flat on the I-5.)

Very thankful that I live close enough to my Mommy to visit her for the week-end and also thankful that so many of my family members were there also. And overwhelmingly thankful that my daughter celebrated her 20th birthday with said family.
